Se trata del edificio de una empresa que diseña, produce y comercializa productos textiles. El sitio es una parcela en esquina cerca de la ciudad de la moda de “Harajuku”.
El negocio se enfoca hacia la ropa femenina, por lo que conceptualmente el diseño del edificio es una metáfora de la belleza femenina, expresada a través de la identidad corporativa de la empresa.
Los elementos que confirman esta arquitectura son dos muros de superficie curva que dominan todo el espacio. Estas dos paredes conforman los accesos que conectan directamente con las calles a ambos lados de la parcela en esquina. Este camino, parecido a un estrecho callejón o al fondo de un barranco, lleva a los visitantes hacia el interior del edificio, a la sala de eventos del subsuelo y a las salas de exhibición ubicadas en el primero y segundo piso.

This is a building of a textile planning and trading company which handles the entire process from the production to retail.

The site is well located on the corner plot near the fashionable city “Harajuku”.

The client had been focusing on female apparel business, so the concept of our building design which is a metaphor of female beauty was suitable for them to put across their corporate identity.

The components that characterizes this architecture are the two curved surface walls which dominate the entire space.

These two walls form a shortcut path which connects the roads in front of each side of the corner plot. This path which looks like a narrow alley or the bottom of a ravine leads visitors inside the building, to the event hall in the basement and the showrooms on the first and second floors.

The curves used in the elevation surfaces on the north side and the east side represent those of a female body.

The graceful curved surface walls were created by connecting the curves with a straight line.

These curved walls are used as a motif of this architecture, and you can see them not only in the façade but also in the internal spaces on each floor.

La rehabilitación de un ferrocarril no operativo a través de medios sustentables se logra en este caso transformando la zona en un paseo marítimo que respeta las características ambientales de la región. El proyecto se centraren la seguridad de las obras del túnel en la ladera del arrecife, incluyendo la hidráulica. La obra abarca toda la antigua traza del ferrocarril y sus instalaciones entre Albissola y Celle Ligure (SV), transformándolo en un gran paseo peatonal con miradores y una nueva pasarela saliente hecha en acero corten y madera. La restauración del túnel ferroviario funcionará como un ”contenedor” para exposiciones e instalaciones artísticas.

Rehabilitating an inoperative railway through environmentally aware means, thereby transforming this area into a promenade that adheres to its area’s environmental constraints. This project would focus on the safety of the tunnel works on the reef slope, including hydraulics.

The project encompasses the entire stretch of the retired railroad and its fixtures between Albissola and Celle Ligure (SV) , transforming it into an environmentally accentuated pedestrian promenade. The project focalises the nature pathes, view points, a new overhang walkway made by corten steel and wood. The restoration of the railway tunnel will function as a “container” for visionary art exhibitions and artistic installations.

We designed this urban promenade without altering the identity of the area that for a strange paradox was maintained in a state of semi-abandoned for 40 years. The general objectives of the design on to the general issues were:
• Giving continuity to the pedestrian paths
• Increase the usability of the coastline
• Reversibility of the interventions
• Materials with low environmental impact
• Increase in public parks and redevelopment of the existing
• Development of tourism compatible.

The cost per square meter (true yardstick of public space projects) was very low in the face of complex interventions (including structural works, and on the sea) subject to constraint, the final high quality environment.
This is the result of setting design strategies that have always focused on the real change of boundary conditions, activation of the virtuous and the overall vision.
The materials commonly used, but simple “safe”, are confirmation of what you have preferred the complexity / articulation of space and the real usability of the new structures with respect to the richness of the decoration and trim. You are so ‘ obtained important results in terms of:
- Extension of the project area
- Achievement of results-not originally anticipated impact on economic activity and tourism
- environmental rehabilitation
- Construction of new routes (like the gallery, the first inaccessible).
All results that integrated and exceeded the objectives initially set by the entities involved in the process.

Este edificio de dos pisos es un hospital para animales y la casa del veterinario. Desde los estrechos jardines se hace girar el edificio. Los jardines son trapezoidales para lograr espacios más amplios. El perímetro es una pantalla de metal que controla las vistas hacia el exterior.

A two story building of an animal hospital and the veterinarian’s house. We created several gardens around the building – garden for animals, backyard, garden for the dweller. Since those gardens are narrow, we rotated the building and created trapezoidal gardens so that those gardens could be wider space. The top/bottom edge of the metal screen at the site border changes in response to the surroundings and trims the view toward the outside of the site.

El edificio del gimnasio en Tourrette Levens es parte del complejo de una escuela secundaria. La simplicidad del programa de gimnasia y circo nos llevó a reflexionar sobre el lado de plástico del proyecto. De hecho, la transitoriedad del circo que se monta y desmonta en las ciudades permanece en el inconsciente colectivo. Nuestro proyecto es una alegoría de la carpa del circo. La idea es simple, una caja de hormigón cubierta con un paño. El ocultamiento se convierte en misterio, y nos hacen percibir de manera diferente lo que antes era habitual. Queríamos crear un objeto escultórico, oculto y embalado en una piel de hormigón, ondulado como un telón. El color ocre amarillo da a las paredes ciegas una expresión de ligereza acentuada por el hecho de que el concreto estampado no llega a tocar el suelo. Debido a esto, el objeto, que podría haber sido un sencillo gimnasio, toma una dimensión artística. El volumen elegido es simple: un paralelepípedo rectangular de 14 metros de ancho y 8 metros de altura en continuidad con el gimnasio existente y separado de él por el volumen de la sala de entrada y los depósitos más bajos.

The building of the gym in Tourrette Levens is part of a plot where is erected a secondary school, and a gymnasium. This new building reserved for students and associations is intended for gymnastics and circus.

The program simplicity led us to reflect on the plastic side of the project. In fact, the area of study of the circus, put out the physical and moral development, includes a cultural, artistic, and social. The transience of the circus that is assembled and disassembled in cities remains in the collective unconscious. Our project is an allegory of the circus tent.

The idea is simple “a concrete box that was covered with a cloth”. Concealment becomes mystery, and make us perceive differently what was commonplace before. We wanted to create a sculptural object concealed and packed in a skin of concrete, corrugated as a wavy stage curtain. The yellow ocher color gives the blind walls an expression of lightness heightened by the fact that the stamped concrete does not touch the ground. Because of this, the object, which could have been a simple gym, takes an artistic dimension.

The volume chosen is voluntary simple: a rectangular parallelepiped of 14 meters wide and 8 meters in height in continuity of the existing gymnasium and detached from it by the volume of the entrance hall and deposits, which is less high.
By its presence, the project aims to complete the overall design of the existing sports facilities, by standing as a new south gable.

A single material wraps all the facades of the object. It walls are made of a stamped and painted concrete called “draped concrete” with a texture reminiscent of stage curtains.

The texture of the drapery is obtained by using two alternating matrices of slightly different patterns, but the same height as the concrete shells, specially designed for the project. Those walls have been casted all the way up, and the self-placing concrete has been poured in a single process so as not to reveal a horizontal joint. The vertical ones disappear in the pattern of the drapery.

Inside the room, a natural light is achieved by the presence of two major openings, not noticeable from the outside, a glass square on the roof, centered on the room, and a horizontal window in the north facade.

In this volume, the human scale is found by the calpinage at the bottom (2m50), a bounding of impact resistant OSB panels. And at the top we used acoustic wood wool insulation panels. The ceiling is made of raw concrete.

A direct connection to the existing gymnasium was constructed to promote exchanges between the various sports.

By this project, the idea of a building disappears in favor of an object carved in relation to its context and program. The rationale for the staging of such an object lies in the definition of the close relationship between sports, circus, entertainment, art, and social.

Baroque Court Apartments in Ljubljana, Slovenia

El proyecto consiste en la renovación de tres casas en bloque de estilo barroco con un patio cerrado interior ubicado en el centro de la ciudad vieja de Ljubljana, Slovenia, al lado del Ayuntamiento, frente a la Fuente de Robba y cerca de los tres puentes Plecnik. La planta baja se utiliza como librería y en la primera planta se ubican las oficinas. El patio interior fue reconstruido como un espacio cerrado semi-acristalado de servicio que contiene los equipos de acondicionamiento de aire del edificio. En las plantas superiores, alrededor del patio se distribuyen 12 apartamentos.

This project involves the renovation of three Baroque block houses with an enclosed internal court in the old city center next to the City Hall, opposite the Robba Fountain and close to Plecnik’s three bridges.

Existing condition: All three courtside block are owned by Publishing Company.

The ground floor is used as bookshop and the spaces above on the first floor were used for offices and last adapted in the early eighties. The internal court was rebuilt as a closed, semi glazed service space used for the building’s main air conditioning devices.

The brief required to connect the houses into one single unit with implementation of 12 apartments around the small internal court. Baroque elevations facing the street had to be mainly reconstructed to their original state, the internal court on the other hand could be adapted and revitalized; both under the State Heritage supervision. The concept reinstates the existing court as a new central communicating space between levels and apartments. At the same time provides light into the apartment spaces overlooking the court. Since the court is very narrow and enclosed from all sides the main concern was how to provide as much light as possible and to become a central form of internal garden. The result is a fully glazed envelope formed along with reflective elements covering historic elements on the courtyard elevations.

The reflective elements are outlines of historical stone arches, pillars and slabs, which were discovered during the construction. These historical elements become part of the interior and form reflections on the glazed envelope. Together with the transparency of the apartment spaces and reflective elements the court benefits from additional light and visual elements. Exterior features such as tower of Ljubljana Dome and the castle are also reflected down into the courtyard. Sustainable issues: Maximum spaces are used for living areas, the internal court is open-air; gains natural light for internal apartment spaces together with providing natural ventilation, except for roof apartments additional air condition is not needed.

Una casa luminosa con vistas al campo de golf eran los únicos requisitos de los propietarios. Muchas y grandes aberturas, espacios interconectados, amplias y confortables áreas de conveniencia. Utilizamos materiales orgánicos como la madera y el ladrillo de demolición.

My intention was to have the house unnoticed from street perspective, therefore the rugged topography of the land was important. It’s common in São Paulo to have a house in the City and an extra house, most of the time, in a residential condominium with golf camp, 1 or 2 hours from the City of São Paulo, obviously for a certain social class. These are mostly residences for the weekend and this residence is an example of it.

It’s about a young couple, 35 years old, with 2 young kids (a couple) 5 and 8 years old . A bright house and a view of the golf camp incorporated into the project are the only requirements from the owners. I used organic materials such as wood (Cumaru from sustainable handling) and old brick from demolition. Many openings with a beautiful view to the golf course, interconnected spaces, generous convenience areas and plenty comfort mainly.

ONE+ Sauna House

Para nosotros, el sauna significa un espacio para limpiar el cuerpo y el alma. En un sentido literal, los poros se abren y nos deshacemos de todas las impurezas. Se utilizan ramas de abedul para penetrar la piel y aumentar el flujo sanguíneo. En un sentido espiritual, es como la meditación y como muchos otros rituales.
En primavera y en verano se alterna entre estar sentado en la sauna caliente y darse un chapuzón en el mar – en invierno en su lugar rodamos en la nieve. Es muy importante que el uso de la sauna sea agradable y divertido - no es una competencia para ver quién resiste más el calor. El ritual del sauna dura un par de horas de principio a fin.

– I asked Susanne and Sven:

Why a sauna, of all things? To me a sauna is in the same class as a banquet room, a sad reminder of the 70’s and 80’s. But Svenne and Susanne were able to change my mind:
To Svenne, a sauna is simply vital. More precisely, it is just as important as a kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom when discussing what’s needed. Svenne is Swedish, but his mother is Finnish, and with a Finn there’s no way around the sauna.
To Susanne, on the other hand, the sauna is a revelation that symbolizes a rediscovery of basic values, a connection to nature, slow, simple, poor and humble. Susanne is Danish, but has earned her appreciation through marriage.

Together with Svenne’s family, Susanne and Svenne have a summer house in the archipelago of Stockholm, and when Susanne describes what the summers there have given her, and what they mean to the family (Susanne, Svenne and their two children), you understand at once that this was a very special insight and that the primitive life on the island is the greatest luxury she has ever known.

On Uvö, the water is fetched from a communal well, pumped by hand, and getting water can take a long time even though it’s only a walk of five minutes. News must be exchanged with the neigh- bours along the way,there are blueberries to pick and mushrooms to collect.
Other daily chores are just as simple: fishing, baking, chopping wood, boiling jam…
The luxury that is so beneficial is just doing everything yourself and letting things take as long as they take.

And they sauna – in the talk about Uvö, the sauna plays a central role, one that I sense is almost symbolic. Susanne again:
The sauna on Uvö has both a practical purpose – it is the bath facility of the house – and a more spa-like and meditative use. Before we can use the sauna, or shower, the fire must be started, and it takes between 30 and 60 minutes before the sauna is warm and the warm water is ready.

To us, the sauna means cleanness for body and soul. In a literal sense, your pores open up and you get rid of all impurities; we use birch branches to beat our skin and increase blood flow. In spring and summer we alternate between sitting in the sauna and getting warm, and taking a dip in the ocean, and in winter we roll in the snow instead.

In the spiritual sense, the many, slow rituals are like meditation. It is very important that using the sauna should be pleasant and enjoyable – it is not a competition about who can stand the most heat. If you’re too hot, you open the door or go outside for a while. A full sauna ritual takes a couple of hours from start to end.

El complejo de la escuela Bailly, situado en una zona industrial en las afueras de París, es la piedra angular para la reurbanización del barrio de Plaine Commune. Siguiendo la Rue de Bailly, el edificio toma la forma de una pared abandonada alineada a la calle, con un ligero retroceso que define la plaza de la entrada. Inspirada en el contexto del lugar y con una nueva forma, esta plaza se diferencia de su entorno por los colores brillantes de sus cubiertas, el tratamiento de las fachadas de ladrillo de vidrio y la disminución de su escala a nivel de los peatones. El techo en sí es un factor crucial para el proyecto. Es verdaderamente una quinta fachada, percibida por los niños como una luminosa paleta de brillantes colores.

The Bailly school complex, situated in an industrial zone in the suburbs of Paris, forms the cornerstone for the redevelopment of the city district of Plaine Commune. Engaging the Rue de Bailly, the building takes the form of an inhabitable wall aligned the street, with a slight setback defining the entrance plaza.

Taking inspiration from the site’s context and giving it new form, this plaza differentiates from its surroundings with the bright colours of its shed roofs, the treatment of the façades in glazed brick and the diminution of the building scale down to the pedestrian level. The roof itself is a crucial factor of the project. It is truly the fifth façade, perceived from the rue de Bailly by children as a bright, luminous colour palette and from surrounding high buildings as strips of vegetation interrupted by sheds.

The entrance plaza was designed as a space of interaction between the schools and recreation centre with playful awnings protecting it from the elements. The fritted glass on the upper façades protects the intimacy of the children in the school, yet allows views into the courtyard gardens and onto the colourful undersides of the roofs. The glazed brick façades of the plaza extend in to the building, becoming a brick paved interior street which connects the building’s various functions.

The classrooms are organized in two story transversal strips oriented north-south which extend out from the Rue de Bailly to the railway tracks behind the school. These strips give form to the interior gardens and, in collaboration with a translucent glass screen, provide acoustical barriers from the noisy surroundings. This configuration also minimizes the amount of the building exposed directly to the noise from the street and railways.

The preschool and the elementary school yards are located laterally in contrast to the areas for the teachers. Placed on the north and south end of the site, they are visually and acoustically protected om the west by a screen made of circular tubes of different densities which also absorb the noise during recess periods. Each schoolyard is visually extended one level higher by the garden, accessible via a ramp connected to the schoolyard. These gardens, important for the class rooms on the upper levels, enable children to get fresh air between lessons and connect with the schoolyard while walking on the protected and planted promenade.

Private House in Barcelos, Portugal

La parcela tiene una superficie de 3.300 m2, parte de la cual se encuentra en un área verde protegida. La casa, con una superficie total de 300 m2, se ha diseñado articulando la alineación existente con la nueva calle de acceso vehicular y peatonal propuesta. Dado el contexto, nuestro objetivo era otorgarle a los espacios de estar las visuales más interesantes, y ubicar las habitaciones al sur para aprovechar la calidad de la exposición solar, darles intimidad y relacionarlas con la topografía existente. En este lado del edificio el nivel del suelo existente es mayor, lo que permite la conexión y la continuidad entre el interior y el exterior, distribuyendo las áreas sociales a nivel del suelo y las privadas en el nivel superior.

The plot has an area of 3300 sqm, part of which located in a green protection area. The house has 300 sqm of total area, and a gross building area of 290 sqm.
The house footprint is designed based on the articulation between the existing alignments and the new proposed access road, which enables both car and foot access. Given the context, our objective was to turn the living spaces to east, considering this is where the most interesting visual points are, and to make rooms face south due to the quality of sun exposure, privacy and relationship with the existing topography.
On this side of the building the existing ground level is higher, enabling a connection and continuity between interior and exterior.
On the overall, we can say that the social areas are at ground level, and the private areas on the upper level.

Construction started November 2008, and was finished in 2011. The project was executed by Braga based company Engiaço, that specializes on light steel frame system construction.

Due to the steep topography of the site, the house has two storeys on the eastern side, and just one on the western side. This means that on the western side there is a relevant part of the structure buried. This is achieved structurally by the use of a load bearing concrete frame, enabling the creation of the undergroud parking space. The access entry slot is also framed by two concrete walls, that enable the transition between the entry level on the site and the actual first floor level.

On top of this concrete structure sits a light steel frame system, completed with an exterior insulation finishing system. The interiors are mainly built with the use of dry-lining systems, and solid woods and/or lacquered woods, for flooring and fitted furniture.

Un proyecto de renovación para convertir una antigua casa desocupada en una residencia ubicada en un pueblo de Teshima, una isla situada en el Mar de Seto. Para insertar nuevos elementos sin alterar el paisaje de los alrededores de la aldea, que no ha cambiado desde viejos tiempos, el actual muro exterior frente a la calle fue dejado intacto. Aunque el deteriorado techo de tradicional estilo japonés fue reemplazado, se adoptó su forma básica y el color original utilizando materiales diferentes que apenas se diferencian desde el exterior.
Todos los muebles y demás elementos funcionales del dormitorio, así como el patio, se reconstruyeron utilizando diversos materiales blancos, tales como maderas, piedras y yesos con diferentes expresiones y tonos. En Japón, el blanco es no sólo el símbolo de un nuevo comienzo, es también un color sagrado que representa la pureza, la inocencia y la paz.

A renovation project to convert an old vacant house into a dormitory in a village on Teshima, an island lying in the Seto Inland Sea. A dormitory for restaurant staff of IL VENTO which was created as artwork of Tobias Rehberger for Setouchi International Art Festival 2010. The main focus for this project is how we make most of the vacant houses increasing by depopulation.

To insert new elements without disturbing the surrounding landscape of the village which remains unchanged from the old days, the existing exterior wall facing the lane was left untouched. Though deteriorated traditional Japanese style roof was replaced, the basic form and color of the original was adopted to the new one only using different materials, you hardly notice the change from the outside.

On the other hand, all the furnishings and functional features of dormitory as well as a courtyard are reconstructed using various white materials such as woods, stones, and plasters with different expressions and tones. In Japan, white is not only a symbol of new beginning, but the sacred color representing purity, innocence, and peace.

Interior space is comprised of three private rooms and a lounge, and a small courtyard set in the middle. The huge white terrace linked by lounge realizes the open space with sense of relief and freedom.

Contrasts between the inside and outside of the building, that is new and old, proposes to expand the possibilities of the existing architecture on the island and island itself.

Foster + Partners, asociado con los Ingenieros G.O.C. y Cabanelas Castelo Architects, ha ganado un concurso internacional para diseñar la nueva estación de trenes de alta velocidad en la ciudad de Ourense, Galicia, en el noroeste de España. El diseño combina la infraestructura de transporte con un nuevo parque que creará un importante espacio público en la ciudad y abrirá enlaces peatonales entre los barrios ubicados a ambos lado de la estación.
La estación del AVE se encuentra sobre el nivel de la estación existente y se completa con una terminal de autobuses y un área de estacionamiento subterránea.
Por encima, la presencia de la estación es discreta y transparente, con fachadas acristaladas que permiten visuales hacia las montañas. El complejo está cubierto por una secuencia de pabellones de techo liviano que se elevan en un arco sobre la estación y se extienden dando sombra a la plaza y a la entrada al parque. La parte inferior del techo refleja la luz del día hacia a las plataformas y, entre cada capa, se proyecta una abertura lineal vidriada.
El parque que se extiende desde la plaza de la estación tiene una red de piscinas de agua y de senderos peatonales que se corresponden y conectan las calles del Barrio del Puente con las del Barrio Veintiuno.

Foster + Partners, in a joint venture with engineers, G.O.C. and Cabanelas Castelo Architects, has won an international competition to design a new high-speed rail station in the city of Ourense in Galicia, north western Spain. The design combines transport infrastructure with a new park, which will create a major new public space in the city and open up pedestrian links between the districts on each side of the tracks.

The high-speed AVE train station is located over the existing track level and integrates a bus station and parking area below. Above ground, the station’s presence is discreet and transparent, with glazed facades that allow views through to the mountains beyond. The concourse is sheltered beneath a sequence of lightweight roof canopies, which rise in a sweeping arc over the station and extend to shade the plaza and entrance to the park. The underside of the roof is reflective to bounce daylight down to the platforms, and between each canopy is a glazed, linear opening.

The park extends fromthe station plaza and is intersected by pools of water and a formal network of pedestrian walkways, which echo the alignment of the tracks and connect the streets of Barrio del Puente to Barrio Veintiuno.

El centro de Gavroche es un espacio cultural y educativo para niños situado en el corazón del plan de renovación urbana Víctor Hugo en Saint-Ouen, Francia. La parcela triangular donde se ubica el complejo está situada dentro de un tejido de construcción heterogénea. La profundidad del sitio proporciona al edificio tres diferentes orientaciones. Los talleres y las salas de juegos se vuelcan hacia el jardín y se benefician de una vista sin obstáculos hacia la vegetación. El espacio de la entrada, con su patio situado detrás de la calle, actúa como una conexión urbana con la calle Aragó. Las ranuras de la construcción le otorgan una cierta continuidad con el tejido urbano existente, así como con el diseño del Jardín Víctor Hugo.
El centro infantil se destaca como un servicio público con programas culturales, educativos y cívicos cuyo objetivo es lograr una fuerte integración social. La organización funcional del edificio se desarrolla alrededor de la sala central, punto focal del conjunto, totalmente abierto al público. Un pedestal formado por líneas horizontales se hace eco de la configuración del parque. Esta base es compatible con una serie de cajas de madera, que parecen ser estructuras ligeras con paneles variados, establecidos en forma fragmentada. La disposición interior de la planta baja favorece los espacios abiertos y una máxima transparencia, adaptados a las necesidades de iluminación natural, así como a las condiciones acústicas. El rigor en la organización de las distintas unidades permite una legibilidad excelente de los distintos usos, al tiempo que facilita a los niños y a los visitantes una clara orientación en todo el edificio. Esto también se logra con el uso de un lenguaje colorimétrico y una adecuada señalización.

The Gavroche centre for children is a cultural and educational facility situated in the heart of the Victor Hugo development. The latter is part of a large urban renewal scheme consisting principally of housing, offices and commercial buildings organised around the Victor Hugo Garden.

The complex triangular plot is located within a heterogeneous built fabric: the park to the West, old town houses to the North and several new 5 storey buildings to the South. The depth of the site provides the building with three different orientations. The workshops and games rooms are therefore turned towards the garden, most of the spaces benefiting from an unobstructed view out onto greenery. The entrance space, with its forecourt set back from the street, acts as an urban connection with the rue Arago. The building slots into this complex site, preserving, as much as possible, a certain continuity with the existing urban fabric as well as with the layout of the Victor Hugo Garden.

The children’s centre stands out as a public facility. The scheme demonstrates cultural, educational and civic intentions with a strong social integration objective. The centre is a place for educational leisure, where children and adolescents are able to develop their own individuality through collective games and workshops. The building’s functional organisation evolves around the central hall, focal point of the centre, entirely open to the public. Firstly, the scheme rests on a plinth consisting of horizontal lines echoing the configuration of the park. This base supports a number of timber boxes, which appear to be light structures with varied panelling, set out in a fragmented way. The interior layout of the ground floor favours open spaces with maximum transparency, adapted to natural lighting requirements, as well as acoustic conditions. The rigorous organisation of the different entities allows for a great legibility of the various uses, while facilitating the children and visitor’s orientation throughout the building. This is also achieved with the use of a colorimetric language and appropriate signage.

Esta es una casa de veraneo situada en el bosque en Nagano, Japón. Al proyectarla a partir de un triángulo plano se obtienen amplias vistas oblicuas. Una expresión natural que se traduce y se expresa en las formas, como la sombra de un árbol y la luz en un lienzo blanco. A través de los bajos aleros, las visuales conducen al fondo arbolado.

This is a summer house situated in the forest. In this house, by “digging a triangle plane into a house figure”, the view extending obliquely upward was gained. Since the site is comparatively flat, a specific view does not open, like hills, but the big Japanese larch which has grown over ten meter is beautiful. Because the views of the larch branches cannot be caught by adopting horizontal openings, we considered catching it by the opening in a slant direction.

Wooden shade is reflected in the center room dug by the triangle from a high position, and it changes every moment as time goes by. A natural expression is translated and expressed in forms, such as the shade of a tree and light, on a white canvas. Moreover, a sense of distance with trees is adjusted depending on how to place yourself, and it provides a spatial experience filtered with depth.

On the other hand, the rooms of both wings are contrastively darker than the center room, and they are illuminated by the wavering light coming from the center room. Through the low eaves, the view enters the space which leads to the bottom grass of the woods.

The space and geometric configuration of the space, the intended functionality and the limits of the constructed structure that is developed in two floors had determined the organization of some spaces and image of the establishment.

Thus, we understand to implant the sanitary installations of the public, the warehouse and respective dressings room M/F of the staff in the floor -1. In floor 0, the destined spaces to the public are developed fluidly from the vestibule that separates the interior spaces of the exterior. The “bengaleiro” is next to the entrance but with independent access once the first bar was dislocated more for the interior of the establishment. To follow implanted a volume (sanitary installation of support the usuaries of reduced mobility) that it marks the access to the stairses of connection to the floor -1. Finally we conclude the fund of the space with a support bar that also functions as closing of the space of the dance track.

The image of the bar is born of the “treatment” of the walls and roofs with different heights harmonized for the red color and “cuts” in its materials for the introduction of artificial light. It was intended to give differentiated dimension to the roofs in order to increase the legal least height and air volume that is dependant of the maintenance of part of the existing flagstone for structural reasons.

La casa se desarrolla con la planimetría de la ciudad Guarda como telón de fondo. El lugar, profundamente alterado, está en un contexto periférico recientemente urbanizado. El territorio natural fue despersonalizado por los cambios topográficos provocados por dicha urbanización. El espacio público existente fue construido sin tener en cuanta la topografía del lugar, obligando a la formación de lotes artificiales con diferentes morfologías y tipologías constructivas. La casa tiene una superficie cubierta de 320m2 con un garaje en el sótano y dos pisos superiores. El volumen de la construcción se materializa en dos cuerpos. La solución trató de minimizar el impacto del volumen de la construcción en el paisaje. La permeabilidad visual entre el interior y el exterior, lo público y lo privado, es guiada y controlada.

Context
The house evolves planimetricly with the city of Guarda as a background. The place profoundly altered exists in a peripheral context recently urbanized. The natural territory was depersonalized by the topographic changes caused by the urbanization. The existing public space is build without an organisation that matches the topography of the place, forcing an artificial and uncharacteristic lotting where there are different morphologic construction formulations e several typologies.

Lot
Corner lot of trapezoidal configuration. Streets layout involving the lot with high sloping. Good solar exposure. Restrictions in the implantation of the building volume initially predicted.

Program
The program evolves in three floors, imposed by the rules of the lotting. The garage, support kitchen, store-room, and service toilet are organised in the ground floor and in function of the external space previously defined.
On the 0 floor, common spaces were formed around the central entry space (it unites and divides the two compact bodies). This entrance space makes the functional and visual link between all the construction levels. In these two bodies are included the kitchen, living-room, dining-room, work space and service toilet. It´s in this floor that are placed the common spaces, relating from the entry space where the stairs are inserted. The stairs where conceived as a sculpture, beyond their utilitarian function. We tried to establish a logic visual relation between the exterior and the interior and vice-versa an interdependency between the two bodies. In the last floor are the most intimate spaces, the bedrooms and bathrooms, baring in mind their articulations from the central space.

Solution
Foreseen the building of an isolated house with 320m2 of covered area. A garage in the basement and the residence in the two upper floors. Relating to the surrounding landscape. The construction volume is materialized in two apparently compact masses, two bodies that extend the shape of a living space between them. The solution tried to minimize the impact of the predicted building volume of three floors. Lot delimitated by a level wall. The setting favours visual stringing between the back and front parts of the site. The visual permeability between the inside and the outside, the public and the private is controlled and guided.

Esta concepción tuvo en cuenta la morfología del terreno, la orientación solar, los accesos y el enlace a los cuerpos circundantes.

The site of action is part of an urban context through the recently redesigned Detailed Plan of Antas. The nearby is not defined by buildings, with only the north to the existence of a huge slope and south of the proposed construction site. The land is entirely surrounded by streets. The area of the school is approximately 2 967.00 m2.

The spatial and architectural design of the building of the new Education Center Antas were formalized in several bodies each containing part of the program in accordance with principles of internal organization, functionality, form and image, given the type of building and its specificity. This conception took into account the morphology of the terrain, solar orientation, access and links to surrounding bodies. It always took account to the relationship established between spaces, between exterior and interior and between interior spaces. The intension is to formalize and realize the program provided through a drawing of building capable of being fragmented into several bodies interconnected with exterior spaces creating diverse environments. It’s a building consisting of several bodies expressed by a “simple architecture” that will build a close relationship with the exterior spaces. It was intended to create in the spaces between the various bodies the visual relationship between interior and exterior reducing relations with the urban surroundings. There was an intention to turn into how the building relates to the exterior. However there are some links to the outside also. The settlement found answers to a matrix that structuralize a functional organization of the school as a function of the planned program and constraint imposed by various land levels.

El diseño de una casa sostenible flotante es el medio perfecto para acabar con el aura de idealismo y positivismo que existe alrededor del tema de la sustentabilidad que considera que ésta no puede producir resultados concretos, precisos y tangibles. El resultado es una casa fantástica, que literalmente flota sobre las cualidades de la vida que otorga el agua y que no contamina su ambiente sino que lo purifica y que acumula suficiente energía tanto para el verano como para el invierno. Para sacar el máximo partido, el edificio es adaptable, flexible e inteligente. La casa tiene dos fachadas, una cubierta que la protege del sol y otra abierta de cristal. De esta forma el calor puede ser absorbido o excluidos. Mediante la rotación de la casa de acuerdo a las estaciones del año, se logra una reducción del 40% de la carga térmica y del 90% de la carga de enfriamiento. Las actividades que requieren de calor se encuentran arriba, las que prosperan en temperaturas más frías por debajo, aprovechando así el natural ascenso del aire caliente.El núcleo de la casa contiene todas las áreas funcionales y la tecnología. En cuanto a los materiales, el 63% tiene certificación C2C y el 28% es completamente reciclable. Una fantástica casa flotante diseñada en torno a la experiencia del agua. Una casa que limpia el ambiente con sus jardines verticales y proporciona la energía suficiente para recargar todos los días un coche eléctrico. Una casa que puede implementar a través del tiempo los nuevos desarrollos es un lugar perfecto para vivir.

Sustainable Floating House

The design of the sustainable floating home is the perfect means to end the aura of idealism and positivism surrounding cradle-to-cradle and sustainability. Once and for all we nullify the claims that sustainability and cradle-to-cradle can never lead to any concrete, precise or tangible results.

The aim was to create a remarkable and feasible self sufficient floating home. The result is a fantastic home that literally floats on the qualities of living on water. A house that does not pollute it’s environment; instead it purifies and collects enough energy in the summer for the winter period.

The self sufficient house is open to new technological and environmental developments. No rosy assumptions, but a smart and integral design. Sustainability is mainly found in time and motion: the fourth dimension. To make the most of this, the building is adaptive, flexible and intelligent.

The house has two facades, a shell that protects against the sun and a glass house which opens up to the sun. This way the heat can be absorbed or shut out. By rotating the house according to the seasons, a 40% reduction of the heat load and 90% reduction of the cooling load can be realized. The activities that require warmth are situated upstairs; those that thrive in cooler temperatures below, thus utilising the naturally rising of warm air.

The core of the house contains all the functional areas and all technology. The applied techniques are durable, no nonsense, self-evident, and communicate a sustainable lifestyle. In terms of material, 63% is C2C-certified and 28% is fully recyclable. A fantastic floating home designed around the experience of water. A house that cleans the environment with it’s (vertical) gardens and provides enough energy to daily recharge an electric car. A house that can implement over time new developments and best of all offers a great place to live.

Tel Aviv Museum of Art

El nuevo edificio para el Museo de Arte de Tel Aviv, el principal museo de arte moderno y contemporáneo de Israel, está ubicado en el corazón de la ciudad, en el Boulevard Shaul HaMelech. El sitio para la construcción del Amir Building está alejado de la calle, detrás de una gran plaza, en una parcela triangular ubicada entre el complejo del museo existente, la Biblioteca y el Centro para las Artes Escénicas.
El diseño del Museo deriva directamente del reto de proporcionar varios pisos de grandes galerías rectangulares dentro de un estrecho y peculiar sitio con forma triangular. La solución es ”la cuadratura del triángulo” con la construcción en los diferentes ejes, que se apartan significativamente de un piso a otro. En esencia, se construyen tres niveles sobre-rasantes y dos bajo nivel, apilados uno encima del otro, pero estructuralmente independientes.

The Museum is located in the heart of Tel Aviv at 27 Shaul Hamelech Boulevard, set back from the street behind a large plaza. The Ministry of Justice stands to the east; the Beit Ariela Municipal Library and the Center for the Performing Arts are to the west. The site for the Amir Building is a triangular plot between the existing Museum complex , the Library and the Center for the Performing Arts.

Design and construction of a freestanding new building for the complex of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the leading museum of modern and contemporary art in Israel. Housing an installation of the Museum’s comprehensive collection of Israeli art, as well as its architecture and design galleries, drawings and prints galleries, photography study center, art library, new auditorium, a large gallery for temporary exhibitions and public amenities, the Herta and Paul Amir Building is intended to create an outstanding, forward-looking work of architecture for the Municipality of Tel Aviv.

The design for the Amir Building arises directly from the challenge of providing several floors of large, neutral, rectangular galleries within a tight, idiosyncratic, triangular site. The solution is to “square the triangle” by constructing the levels on different axes, which deviate significantly from floor to floor. In essence, the building’s levels—three above grade and two below – are structurally independent plans stacked one on top of the other.

These levels are unified by the “Lightfall”: an 87-foot-high, spiraling, top-lit atrium, whose form is defined by subtly twisting surfaces that curve and veer up and down through the building. The complex geometry of the Lightfall’s surfaces (hyperbolic parabolas) connect the disparate angles of the galleries; the stairs and ramped promenades along them serve as the surprising, continually unfolding vertical circulation system; while the natural light from above is refracted into the deepest recesses of the half-buried building. Cantilevers accommodate the discrepancies between plans and provide overhangs at the perimeter.

In this way, the Amir Bulding combines two seemingly irreconcilable paradigms of the contemporary art museum: the museum of neutral white boxes, which provides optimal, flexible space for the exhibition of art, and the museum of spectacle, which moves visitors and offers a remarkable social experience. The Amir Building’s synthesis of radical and conventional geometries produces a new type of museum experience, one that is as rooted in the Baroque as it is in the Modern.

Conceptually, the Amir Building is related to the Museum’s Brutalist main building (completed 1971; Dan Eytan, architect). At the same time, it also relates to the larger tradition of Modern architecture in Tel Aviv, as seen in the multiple vocabularies of Mendelsohn, the Bauhaus and the White City.The gleaming white parabolas of the façade are composed of 465 differently shaped flat panels made of pre-cast reinforced concrete. Achieving a combination of form and material that is unprecedented in the city, the façade translates Tel Aviv’s existing Modernism into a contemporary and progressive architectural language.

La vivienda es para una familia que deseaba trasladarse a un barrio periférico de Atenas. El sitio está ubicado en una pendiente en Agios Konstantinos, Lavrion. Hacia el oeste existe un banco empinado cubierto por una alta vegetación. Hacia el sur, el sitio tiene vistas hacia el mar enmarcadas entre dos montañas. La forma del edificio es una reinterpretación del gesto primordial de la arquitectura, la pared. El edificio en sí se convierte en un muro - límite, por lo que la manipulación de las aberturas sirven para unir y separa dos mundos diferentes, el espacio público y el patio privado. The building is a single dwelling for a family of four who wished to relocate to a peripheral suburb of Athens. The site is located on a slope in Aghios Konstantinos, Lavrion. To the west of the site is a steep bank covered in tall vegetation. To the south, the site enjoys a view of the sea framed between two mountains. The building’s form is a reinterpretation of the primal architectural gesture, the wall. The building itself becomes a wall, or boundary, whereby manipulation of the openings along its length serve to unite and separates two different worlds; public space and the private yard.

Occupation of the house is arranged along the wall, in situ. Its underlying geometry is elementary, a simple line in the ground oriented towards the coast. The western incline of the site permits views that take in the private courtyard with the wider landscape and the forest.
The main volume is placed on a northern axis, and as a result, the path described by the overhead sun indicates the time of day to the occupants. Meanwhile, transverse rows of deciduous and evergreen trees (on the Northern side) act as natural filters for privacy and shade.
The building stands as a calcified stone on a grassy field, in harmony with its surroundings.

Wallhouse was awarded and exhibited at the 6th Biennale of Young Architects in Athens, was awarded as one of the 12 top projects of 2008-10 by the DOMES awards 2011 in Greece, received the 40under 40 award 2011 by the European Centre of Architecture, Art and Urban studies and was exhibited at the 13th International Biennale of Architecture in Buenos Aires.

El proyecto es para una cabaña costera situada en Vardehaugen, en la boca del fiordo en Grøttingen, en la península de Fosen. La propiedad está situada a 35 metros sobre el nivel del mar, en una pequeña depresión en la parte superior del afloramiento, con vistas panorámicas hacia prácticamente todas las direcciones. El edificio está inspirado en la estructura tradicional de los pequeños pueblos noruegos, en los que los principales conceptos arquitectónicos son la flexibilidad de los espacios semi-exteriores y una clara organización social de los ambientes. La cabina se conforma con una pose similar a la de un zorro de monte que se acurruca para evitar el viento. El cuerpo del edificio se extiende plácidamente por una cadena de montañas bajas. Un pequeño anexo ayuda a definir un atrio y protege los espacios exteriores del frío y del viento.

The project is a coastal cabin placed on Vardehaugen, an outcrop by the mouth of the fjord at Grøttingen on the Fosen peninsula. The property is situated 35 meters above sea level in a small depression at the top of the outcrop, with a panoramic view in virtually all directions. The adjacent landscape is dominated by sea, rock, heath, and a sometimes rough coastal climate. The project is a result of the wish of the employers for a cabin custom-made for their family, the characteristic property, and the changing climate in the area. The building is inspired by the traditional Norwegian cluster structures, small villages in which flexible half-climatic outside spaces and a clear social organisation are the leading architectural principles.

The cabin is shaped in a pose similar to a mountain fox curling up to avoid the wind. The body of the building lies snugly by a low mountain ridge and embraces the polished rock furthest out on the property. A small annex helps define an atrium and to shelter the outside spaces from cold and wind.

The kitchen is the spine of the building and ties together the different rooms. From the work bench one can see the cabin, the atrium, and the panoramic sea view. The bedroom and bathroom are located towards the back of the property, with a view to the heath on Vardehaugen. The living room is situated at the outermost point on the property and functions as an observatory. From here, one has a sea view from three directions and can enjoy the path of the sun from the sofa. There is an open plan solution, but there are still shielded nooks and crannies that allow one to retire.

To provide maximum protection for the cabin, the black roof folds in and becomes wall surfaces towards the most exposed directions. The wall surfaces are placed at the angle that will give least access to the wind. At the entrance and by the living spaces, the rough, dark walls are replaced by horizontal, white covering. The cabin is constructed on a simple wooden framework covered with Royal impregnated pine. The cabin is anchored by steel rods that stretch from the ground beam, via the strip foundation to the bedrock.

The planning of the cabin was executed during a year of regular trips to Vardehaugen. It was done this way in order to get the most complete impression of the varying climatic conditions affecting the property. Given the exposed position of the property and the strict demands of the regulation plans, neighbours and local authorities were included early in the design process. Many of the drafts were, for example, drawn full-scale in the snow, in order to visualise the size and exact placement of the building. Local wind information on the property was registered with the help of windsocks and conversations with local inhabitants. These observations, in addition to Anne Brit Børve’s PhD dissertation (“The design and function of single buildings and building clusters in harsh, cold climates”) became important tools in relation to the placement, disposition, and design of the building entities.

The technical details of the cabin were decided upon in close dialogue with the contractor “Åbygg AS,” and were based on their long experience of building in the particular coastal climate on the Fosen peninsula.
