Restaurant Tusen in Ramundberget, Sweden

Escogimos un sitio con una hermosa vista, de fácil acceso para los esquiadores, donde el sol bajo del invierno llegue incluso durante los meses de febrero y marzo. El restaurante se ubicó en un llano seco, en una línea de árboles cerca de un arroyo, bien visible a la distancia para los esquiadores. En este contexto único y sensible queríamos un edificio en armonía con la naturaleza, abierto todo el año, durante el día y la noche.
El sitio es a veces muy ventoso. La forma redonda del edificio deja que el viento pase, y deja caer la nieve al lado de la entrada.
El abedul es el único árbol que crece a esta altura donde comienza el páramo de montaña. Al colocar los troncos en su completa longitud logramos en la entrada la imagen de una zona al aire libre soleada, abierta a las pistas, protegida y en calma.
Elegimos abedules como material de la fachada ya que tienen un carácter local, no necesitan ser pintados y son agradables de mirar, incluso cuando cae su corteza. Por sus grandes dimensiones son fuertes ante el clima duro y sus troncos son fácilmente reemplazables en caso de ser necesario.
Al optar por una construcción de madera hemos logrado un edificio prefabricado de bajo peso, con un impacto pequeño sobre el terreno. A su vez, esto nos permitió minimizar los tiempos de construcción.
La corteza de abedul / contrachapado de abedul blanco en el interior de la fachada espeja el exterior e integra a la naturaleza que lo rodea.
El espacio interior es íntimo. Cada ventana del restaurante per mite una vista única en ambos niveles. Las ventanas superiores son para percibir la experiencia de las estrellas y las luces del norte. Los colores interiores están inspirados por el musgo, los líquenes y la mora.
El restaurante tiene su propio sistema de tratamiento de aguas residuales y consigue su propia agua de un manantial en el suelo cercano.
El edificio se calienta por el calor de tierra y los intercambiadores de calor cuidan el calor del aire y del agua. Como complemento, los días de mucho frío se utiliza la calefacción eléctrica.

We chose a site with a nice view, easy accessible site for skiers in all weather types and where the low standing sun could reach this spot in February/March.
When we put out t the restaurant it was midsummer, on a dry flat place, near a creek, at the tree line. Well visible on distance for the skier’s.
In this unique and sensitive context we wanted a building in harmony with the nature, the year around and day and night. Birch is the only tree that grows up to this altitude where the mountain moor starts.
The site is sometimes very windy. The buildings round shape let the winds pass, and drop the snow beside the entrance. By letting the standing full length trunks frame in a protected entrance area we achieved a sunny calm outdoor area at the entrance. Open to the slopes.
We choose birch as it is a local nature given façade material. You not need to paint it and it are nice to look at even when the bark is falling of. The big dimensions strands strong against the hard weather and a trunk is easy exchangeable if necessary.
The logs also protect the underlying construction and let the snow stay and strengthen the experience of the facade in the winter.
By choosing a wooden construction we achieved low weight. It is a prefabricated building with small impact on the ground and a way to minimize the building time.
The birch bark/white birch plywood on the inside of the facade mirrors the exterior and invites the surrounding nature to the inside.
The interior is both spatial an intimate. Each window in the restaurant is framing a unique view on both levels. The upper windows are for experience the stars and the northern lights. The interior colours are inspired by moss and lichens and the cloudberries.
The food that is served in the restaurant on local stone plates is local, reindeer and trout.
The restaurant has its own sewage treatment system and gets its own water from a spring in the ground nearby.
The building is warmed up by ground heating and heat exchangers take care of the warmth from the air and water. To top up during really cold days electrical heating is used.
