Silodam Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Un programa de 157 viviendas se dispuso en un volumen de 20 metros de profundidad y 10 pisos de altura en el marco del plan urbanístico para el río IJ de Amsterdam. El edificio hace referencia a los históricos silos de granos de Silodam -que también han sido reconstruidos como viviendas- así como a los contenedores allí apilados.

La demanda de una gran variedad de espacios de vida ha dado lugar a diferentes tipologías de apartamentos, que se reúnen en “pequeños barrios”. Grupos de 4 y 8 casas del mismo tipo pueden ser reconocidos por el uso de los mismos materiales en sus frentes y por el color de sus pasillos y galerías. En el lado occidental se instala un gran balcón colectivo para el uso de los residentes. La presa se ha incorporado a la construcción y termina como una gran plataforma con vistas hacia el IJ. Un espacio de oficina se crea debajo de ella.

A program of 157 houses is arranged in a 20m deep and 10 stories high urban plan located at the IJ-river in Amsterdam.

The building refers to the historical grain silos at the Silodam, which have also been rebuilt as houses, and to the stacked containers nearby.

The demand for a big variety of living spaces has led to different apartment types, which are put together in ‘small neighbourhoods’. Groups of 4 – 8 of the same house type can be recognized by the same use of material in their fronts and also by the specific colour of the hallways and galleries. On the western side is a big collective balcony for the residents. The dam has been ‘pulled’ through the building and ends as a big deck with a view onto the IJ. An office space is created underneath it.
