In July 2005, Statens Fastighetsverk initiated an open international architecture competition for a new Sami Parliament. 111 anonymous entries were handed in. Of these, fi ve were chosen for a second stage, and in april 2006, Murman arkitekter won the competition. Our proposal is built on a simple but expressive shape, embracing a large outdoor space.

Jury´s decision – the winner
The jury´s opinion is that the competition entry “Badjáneapmi” is a very beautiful and expressive building with great architectonical qualities. Hopefully, it will become a new landmark and an internationally known destination in Kiruna.
The shielding and embracing, yet open and welcoming expression of the building is well compatible with the aim to express the Sami identity and create a dignifi ed environment for the Sami Parliament. Aimed towards the city, the entrance area with its generous space invites popular activities and gatherings.
