Macchu Picchu 2004

During the last years, architectural bidding contests have evolved to became the most suitable to contemporary ambitions propelling ideas, getting new perspectives promoters and setting up new architectural parameters.
Inside this vision, ARQUITECTUM, enterprise specialized in bidding contests development, is great to welcome to they all architects concerned about to take part in “Macchu Picchu 2004″ contest, which will award the most creative, interesting and original proposal. This proposal must meet ecological, landscape and lodging interests that are required in one of the most beautiful worldwide view.

INTRODUCTION:
The fact that architectural jobs would be done at unspoiled places, represents a challenge not only for architectural creativity but also for the ability to plan entirely proposals which would be able to settle in a geographic reality and be able to strengthen place’s poetic abilities as well. This is the case of Macchu Picchu, located in Peru, South America.
For that reason, ARQUITECTUM is great to invite to they all architects from all over the world to take part in “Machu Picchu 2004″ contest in order to find the best project for to set up a provisional lodge for local and foreign tourists who wish to stay overnight and to wake up in front of the Sanctuary itself and the Huayna Picchu (which means “Young Mountain”), exactly in an area designated for this purpose.

THE PROJECT: A LODGE
This contest is promoted by a local tourism operator that wish to execute an architectural ideas contest in order to evaluate any chance to set up a lodge destined for local and foreign tourists who usually go on a trip to Macchu Picchu and would like to stay overnight at this place.
This lodge will be provided with a building area not larger than 13,000 square feet (1,250 square meters approximately)

HANDING OVER REQUERIMENTS
One 30′ x 40′ (.70 x 1.00 meters approximately) presentation board, with the 40″ side vertically oriented. The board should have a maximum thickness of 0.25″ (6 mm) and weight no more than 4.41pounds (2 kilograms). The board must lie flat against an easel or wall, and may not include anything that raises off more than 0.25″ (6.35 mm) from the surface.

PRIZES
The prizes will be the following:
- First Prize: $ 5,000
- Second Prize: $ 2,500
- Third Prize: $ 1,000
- Ten Honorable mentions

EXHIBITION AND PUBLICATION:
All of the finalist proposals, as well as the winning proposal, will appear later in a special issue of Colombian magazine “Escala”. The issue will come out mid-year and a free copy will be sent to the contest winners.
Starting April 2004, all of the projects presented will appear in a virtual exhibit in the ARQUITECTUM website: www.arquitectum.com

PARTICIPATION REQUERIMENTS
Who can participate?
They all architects from all over the world who are accurately recorded at their country of origin, including multidisciplinary teams.
Professors and university students teams who wish to participate must count with a maximum of fifteen students per team and a university supporting document as well.

PARTICIPATION COSTS:
- Architects, Architects teams or Multidisciplinary teams
Registration fee prior to November 30, 2003: US$ 50
Registration fee to December 31, 2004: US$ 100
- Professors and university students teams (Universities will be able to pay by teams that count with one architect professor as minimum and ten students as maximum)
Registration fee prior to November 30, 2003: US$ 300
Registration fee to December 31, 2004: US$ 500

ENTRANCE AND APPLICATION PURCHASE
“Macchu Picchu 2004″ website, from when you can purchase applications for the contest, will be available since November 1st, 2003. Payment will be as the following:
Online Registration: Entrants can register online, paying by credit card via the secure system. Upon of online registration, entrants will immediately receive their registration confirmation and registration number document and number must be printed out and included with final submission of contest entry. Registration must be completed by November 31, 2003 for standard-fee registration; by December 31 for late-fee registration.
