After the big success of the past editions (2006-2007), with the sponsorship of ADI Webert proposes the third contest of industrial design for the production of single lever and traditional mixers for bathroom and kitchen.
In this edition also, the purpose of the Company is to stimulate the search for new ideas and new solutions that keep functionality and aesthetics together, suggesting original taps that are innovative for their technology, materials, shapes and colours, with free inspiration thinking on their possible serial-reproducibility.
Registrations are opened since now and projects should be sent within the 15th May 2008.
The price of the contest is a total amount of € 6.000 to be divided among the first three winner-projects. Selected projects will be showed during an exhibition, that must still to be planned, within the 31st December 2008.

Contest Announcement
Art. 1 Aim of the Contest
Webert, with the support of the ADI, Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (association for the industrial design), organizes a contest for the design of an innovative single lever mixer or double control taps for bathroom and kitchen, which are technically feasable and can be industrially manufactured. The projects will have to combine aesthetic values with functional values and create a shape for a serial industrial product, suitable to its practical function.
Art. 2 Product specifications
The sets of mixer taps must be composed of: a washbasin and a bath tub set including shower head; a kitchen sink mixer with swivel spout or with pull-out-spray. The mixer tap must use a mixer cartridge (see attachment). The two handles mixer tap must use 2 ceramic valves (see attachment). Art. 3 Composition of the Jury
The Jury consits of five memners having the right to vote:
ROBERTO MARCATTI: designer, lecturer at the Milan Polytechnic (Chairman)
PIERLUIGI MOLINARI: designer, lecturer at the Milan Polytechnic, ADI Associazione per il Disegno Industriale representative
GRAZIA GAMBERONI: Editotial Coordinator for RIMA Editrice A sales representative for sanitary and furnishing fittings
SALVATORE PISCHEDDA: Technical Manager at Rubinetteria Webert
The Jury’s decisions will be taken by majority vote.
Art. 4 Prizes
The total prize money is € 6.000, divided as follows:
1° Prize € 3.000
2° Prize € 2.000
3° Prize € 1.000
Should the Contest end without a merit list and without a winner due to a lack of suitable designs, the Jury may, at its own discretion, split the prize money among the participants, which,according to their opinion, deserve particular merit.
The above-mentioned amount of prize money is net of the tax deduction and it will be paid net of VAT. Prize winners accept to show necessary tax document before collecting their prize money. The Organizer specifies that the entire amount of prize money will be distributed and that no Pay As You Earn tax (if any) envisaged by law will be deducted.
The prizes will be awarded by October 31st. 2008
Art. 5 Conditions for participation
Participation is open to Italian or foreign professional designers such as architects or engineers, who are either self-employed or employed by companies if authorised by the latter.
Groups of designers are also allowed to participate, but a group leader must be appointed to have sole responsibility and act as contact person with Webert.
Members of the Jury, their relatives and Webert employees are not allowed to take part at the contest.
Art. 6 Unpublished designs
The designs must in all cases be unpublished and must have been developed specifically for this contest. In case of any dispute regarding the originality of the designs, Design Jury’s opinion will count .
Art. 7 Drawings
3D drawings and 1 axonometric or perspective drawing must be submitted for each design. The drawings must be presented in A3 format (29.7 x 42 cm) mounted on a rigid support (e.g. polyplatt) and on a CDRom. Use of colour is permitted. A short report of no more than n.3 A4 pages must also be sent; this report should describe the reasons and the design characteristics including the materials and any other information considered useful.
The participant can choose whether illustrating the design using other drawings or images which, however, must be included in the above mentioned drawings or in the report. The participant’s motto should be indicated on all the drawings and on the report (see art. 8).
Art. 8 Identification and anonymity
The drawings presented by the competitors must not be signed; they should be marked with a motto (or a non repeated six-digit number).
The data relating to the designer or to the group of designers must be given on the form attached to this invitation; the form must be signed by the participants in acceptance of the clauses specifi ed in the invitation and must be placed in a non-transparent, sealed envelope bearing the motto.
Art. 9 Deadline
The drawings should arrive by 5 p.m. on 15 May 2008, in an anonymous package, according to the methods specified in art. 8, at the Rubinetteria Webert, marked for the Attention of Mr. Salvatore Pischedda, who is responsible for the contest-Should the package be delivered by carrier (Postal Service or Couriers), the shipping must be done within May 15th. The deadline cannot be extended (the post stamp or the delivery note will be used as proof); however, no designs which arrive more than 10 days after the date set for handing in, due to errors, will be accepted.
Art. 10 Information and disclosure of results
Webert commits to present the initiative widely and to give the best value to the contest results by means of the most suitable actions. Since now, all competitors hereby authorise Webert to exhibit their design in any exhibition to be held up within December 31st, 2008. The contest partecipants also authorize Webert to publish their design in a catalogue, a book and/or in the specialized press; nothing will be due for this, apart from the obligation to indicate the name/s of the author/s. However, the partecipan ts who do not win an award have the right to request, in writing form within 15 days of the results, that they don’t want their work to be published. The Webert Company will communicate the results of the competition by June 15th, 2008 on the website, www.webert.it.
Webert will inform all the participants of the contest results. Winners will be informed by registered letter, all the other participants by ordinary letter.
Art. 11 Rights of use
By payment of the money award, Webert reserves the right to use the winning designs for one year from the date of the Jury’s verdict. Within this period of time, Webert shall evaluate whether to start production of the mixer tap line. In this case the financial agreements with the designer will be regulated by a specific contract. Webert may also request an option of one year on projects not winning a prize, by payment of a sum to be agreed between the parties. In agreement with the designer, Webert may carry out any kind of aesthetical and functional changes to the drawings, in order to adapt them to its technical and manufacturing needs. The ADI gives to the contest partecipants the possibility of registering their projects in the “Registro dei Progetti ADI” (ADI Design Register) at the preferential price reserved for its members (information may be seen on the website: http://www.adi-design.org/servizi/registro/registro.html).
Art. 12 Return of the drawings
All the drawings not winning an award may be collected by the designers at the Webert Factory starting from 1st July until 31st August 2008. Once this deadline is reached, Webert is implicitly authorised not to keep any drawings received. The award-winning drawings shall be kept by Webert until the option deadline, apart eventual different
agreements between the parties. Maggiora, 15 February 2008.
